European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, pledged to introduce single-ticket rail travel across Europe in her re-election campaign to the European Parliament. However, a similar initiative during her previous five-year term was never implemented. Currently, passengers traveling by train across different European countries often need to purchase separate tickets from various operators and lack protection if a delay or cancellation causes them to miss a connection.
